We think it’s a great idea to get children out of the house by planning a kids party outside instead. However, there are a few things you need to consider when doing so that you might not ever think of with an indoor kids party. Here’s our list:

Weather

First, you’ve got to consider strong winds if you’re planning a kids party outside with a bouncy castle. Check the weather forecast and ask your supplier for more information. They’ll be able to advise you. Next, you’ll want to provide some shade and water. Even a simple sun shelter is perfect for this and can keep them from getting overheated in the warmer months. Next, make sure they’re wearing suncream and keep track of when it was applied and how long it’s meant to last. This is so you know when to reapply it. Lastly, consider some rain protection like wellies and disposable parkas. Kids won’t want to stop the fun because of a little drizzle, but equipping them with the right kit can cut down on your cleanup later.

Activities

Contrary to what you might think is fun as an adult; generally, kids often prefer to amuse themselves when you’re planning a kids party outside. Bring a few balls and other outdoor toys and just leave them to it. You really don’t need to plan a tonne of crafts or other activities. Wrangling them to do set stuff will likely be more hassle than it’s worth. However, if you do want a few set activities, we recommend a bouncy castle, face painter or balloon artist. It’s fun, pick-up-and-put-down and they can do it as and when they feel the urge. Don't forget that you can check out suppliers in your area by checking out the Kids Party Finder website.

Lastly, don’t forget some tunes. A simple wireless speaker and our killer playlist will see you sorted.

Injury & Illness

When you’re outside for longer periods, we recommend topping them up with bug repellent and keeping a first aid kit nearby for any bumps, scratches and scrapes. The only other thing you might get when outdoors versus inside is little bouts of nausea. This is because a lot of children will eat and begin running about immediately after or do things that will make them dizzy. If this happens you can give them sickness drops or tablets or suggest they relax for a bit with a portable fan in the sun shade while it passes.

Bugs & Animals

Forget swatting or swiping...keeping flies off your food during serving is easier with fly tents. They're cheap, simple to use and make buffet tables appear more appetising for longer. Then you only need to worry about crawlies like ants. In this case, we recommend spraying a repellant around the table before you bring the food out, putting a vinyl tablecloth over it and removing/covering the food again when finished. Packing food away when you’re done will reduce the chance that animals will get into it. And lastly, remember to tell kids not to touch any animals or bugs they might find. You can look up common bugs to avoid on council lists like this one.

Hopefully, this list will make you more confident about planning a kids party outside this year. If you want more party-planning tips, we’ve got another great list here.
